Rome was the highlight of my three-country tour. There was something profoundly moving about this city that made me reflect deeply. It was the one place where I had a clear checklist of must-visit sites: the Vatican, St. Peter's Basilica, the Colosseum, and the Pantheon. With only two days to spare, I set out to experience all these iconic landmarks while still capturing the magic of Rome’s everyday life.
Day 1: Arrival and Exploration

We arrived in Rome around 10:00 AM and checked into the Infinity St. Peter Hotel, conveniently located in Vatican City. The central location made exploring incredibly easy.
Our adventure began with a stroll along the River Tiber, a highly recommended way to soak in the city's beauty. Crossing the Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II bridge, adorned with statues of the winged goddess, offered a spectacular view of the river and the city beyond. The sight from the center of the bridge was breathtaking.
Once across, we plunged into the heart of Rome, winding through narrow cobblestone streets, past Gothic and Roman architecture, and storefronts that whispered history. Our first day included visits to several iconic landmarks:
Pantheon: An architectural masterpiece that left us in awe.
Piazza Navona: A vibrant square filled with artists and fountains.
Spanish Steps: A must-see for its charm and lively atmosphere.
Trevi Fountain: Tossing a coin in was a magical moment.
Colosseum: Though we didn’t venture inside on this day, seeing it up close was surreal.
Piazza Barberini and Lago di Torre Argentina: Each filled with history and character.
Our exploration took us over another iconic bridge, the Ponte Sant’Angelo. Known as the oldest bridge in Rome, it features statues of angels and saints holding instruments of Christ’s Passion. The view from the bridge encompassed the beauty of St. Peter’s Basilica and the cityscape.
We ended our long but rewarding day back at the hotel and dined at L’Arcangelo, a cozy Roman restaurant near our lodging.

Day 2: The Vatican and Beyond

Day two started early as we aimed to beat the crowds at the Vatican. Even at sunrise, there was already a line to enter. Enclosed by a stone wall, the Vatican’s atmosphere exudes spirituality and grandeur.
Highlights of the morning included:
Vatican Museums: A treasure trove of art and history.
St. Peter's Square: A magnificent and humbling sight.
St. Peter's Basilica: The intricacy and scale left me speechless.
Belvedere Courtyard: A serene escape within the Vatican.
After several hours soaking in the Vatican’s wonders, we stopped at Caffè Portofino for coffee and pastries. Energized, we crossed the river again to wander without a fixed plan. This unstructured part of the day turned out to be just as magical as the scheduled tours.
We explored residential neighborhoods with stunning Baroque architecture, revisited the River Tiber, and stopped at Castel Sant’Angelo. Gelato breaks punctuated the afternoon, adding sweet indulgence to our adventure.
The evening was a grand finale. We dined at Terrazza Les Étoiles, a rooftop restaurant and bar atop Hotel Atlante Star. While the prices were steep, the panoramic views of Rome made it worth every penny.

Day 3: Farewell to Rome
On our final morning, we enjoyed breakfast at Lattuga before heading to the airport. As our time in Rome ended, I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was still so much left to discover.
Reflections
Rome was an intense and unforgettable experience, packed with history, culture, and spontaneous charm. Two days were not nearly enough to explore everything this city has to offer, but it was just enough to fall in love with it. I’ll definitely return—next time, with more days to linger in its timeless beauty.
